The Ubuntu International Youth Voluntary Service Awards are an exciting initiative designed to champion the value of volunteering by young people from African and European countries. It is the first award of its kind to give recognition to sending and hosting organisations across Africa and Europe and to highlight good practice in the field of international voluntary service.

Applicants to the award are judged by a jury of ten young people (aged 18-25), five from Africa and five from Europe. Winning projects will be selected on the basis of assessment criteria including co-operation and joint decision-making, coherence, sustainability, impact, youth empowerment, innovation/originality.

The overall aims of the award are to:

  • Champion the value of international voluntary service
  • Highlight good and best practice in the field of international voluntary service
  • Increase networking opportunities and improve co-operation between European and African organisations active in the field of international voluntary service.

Plans are afoot to run the Ubuntu International Youth Voluntary Service Awards again in 2011, so even if you didn’t get the chance to get involved, either as a jury member, as a partner organisation, or as an applicant, you will be able to do so next time!
